Reflecting on a remarkable year

As 2024 draws to a close, we at MIMO Connect find ourselves reflecting on a year filled with growth, camaraderie, and memorable experiences.

Our team, though relatively new to the industry, has embraced every challenge and opportunity with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to excellence. Here, three of our dedicated employees share their highlights from this incredible year.

Andrew Creed: Embracing new challenges and celebrating together

“I joined team MIMO early in the year and was welcomed with open arms. Within my first couple of weeks, I was part of the pitch team that presented OneWeb technology at the HQ of the largest cruise company in Europe. The pitch was followed quickly with a trip to Pisa where Jason and I attended YARE 2024 (Yachting Aftersales & Refit Experience), which is basically speed dating for superyacht captains. This turned out to be a great way to meet the industry and hear Jason pitch what makes MIMO great.

In 2024, the MIMO team attended Superyacht events in Palma, Monaco, and most recently in Amsterdam, where we made new connections and caught up with clients. One of the highlights personally has to be the day with the UKSA in Cowes Week, where Alexander and I were guests on their yacht for the day. Even if it was not all oysters and champagne, as we were definitely racing!

With many new products in development for 2025, it is a hugely exciting time to be part of the MIMO team, and I look forward to many more new adventures with the team.”

Stuart Green: Celebrating achievements and supporting charities

“It’s been a fantastic year with MIMO. Still being relatively new to the industry, every day is a school day for me, but every day is different, and working within the Superyacht industry certainly keeps you on your toes! But working in such a close-knit team with similar values and work ethic gives us that real sense of togetherness and celebrating our achievements as a team this year has been a pleasure.

Without a doubt, the highlight of my year with MIMO was the Superyacht Charity golf day in Palma. It’s always a great opportunity to catch up with industry friends and to network and meet new people, and it certainly helps when we sponsor the bar too!

The less said about mine and Andy’s performance on the golf course, the better, but to be able to share a round with good company and a seemingly never-ending supply of beer and rosé in the warm Mallorca sun was fantastic!

On a more important note, supporting Superyacht Charities is something we at MIMO value greatly. The work they do means so much to so many people, and to play even a small part in that is truly rewarding. The incredible amount raised during the golf day is a testament to the generosity of the people that make our industry so special.

We are already looking forward to next year’s event, and Andy and I are determined to improve on our 11th placed finish – I wonder if we can convince Jason and Nicci that we need a day’s “meeting” once a week on the local golf course?”

Sean McDaramid: A year of growth and new opportunities

“2024 was transformative, filled with new opportunities and connections. After returning to Cape Town from family sailing ventures in South-East Asia, I began assisting MIMO Connect early in the year. By September, I officially joined the team as Chief Financial Officer, eager to contribute to this dynamic organisation.

My journey with MIMO Connect started with a highlight in February, meeting some of the team in Dubai. This inspiring experience provided insight into the company’s innovative culture and global ambitions.

In November, I reconnected with the entire team during engagements in the UK and Netherlands, strengthening professional relationships and reinforcing our shared commitment to MIMO Connect’s vision.

Attending the Superyacht Forum and METSTRADE show in November further enriched the year. These events offered a comprehensive perspective on the superyacht and connectivity sectors, highlighting industry challenges like evolving client demands and the drive for technological innovation.

A central theme was sustainability, with the industry’s commitment to achieving net-zero environmental impact by 2050. Witnessing the dedication to sustainable practices was enlightening and motivating.

Looking back, 2024 was a year of growth, collaboration, and discovery, laying a strong foundation for the future.”

Nicci Robertson: Reflecting on team achievements and future goals

“Reflecting on 2024, one of the standout moments has to be being selected as one of the three finalists in the Technology GameChanger Category at the Maritime UK Awards. Attending the ceremony with our amazing team made the experience even more memorable. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come and the talented people we have working alongside us.

Another highlight has been attending events and boat shows, where we have the opportunity to meet ETOs and AVIT officers—people we regularly engage with on the recruitment side but don’t often get to meet face-to-face. It’s always a pleasure to connect in person.

With a team that shares the same vision and values, delivering personalised and efficient customer service while upholding our MIMO core values of Honesty, Integrity, and Reliability, I feel truly blessed and am immensely proud of the exceptional team we’ve built.”

Jason Robertson: Celebrating team spirit and client dedication

“My 2024 highlight has to be the amazing team we've built and the fantastic support and dedication from our wonderful clients.

Another highlight was when Stu shared this adorable chat with his 6-year-old son. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said he wanted to work for 'the MIMO' just like his Dad! When asked why, he said it's because 'the MIMO' does football, and he wants to 'do the football' just like his Dad! Too cute! MIMO Connect sponsors the football kits for the Hythe and Dibden's youth football teams, supporting teamwork, fair play, and good sporting spirit for approximately 550 young players.”
